What is a subdomain and when should I use one?

A subdomain is a prefix added to your main domain (blog.yoursite.com, shop.yoursite.com, api.yoursite.com). Use subdomains for: separate sections of your site with distinct purposes (blog, store, support portal), staging environments (staging.yoursite.com), API endpoints (api.yoursite.com), and regional versions (in.yoursite.com for India).
